I happened to run across this today when looking for something else. It contains all kinds of great info.
Ancestry.com Message Board: Holy Name of Mary Cemetery in Marysville,
Ontario
I
was wondering if someone could look up and maybe even take a digital picture of
my great-grandmothers grave site at the Holy Name of Mary Cemetery in
Marysville, Ontario. Her name is Mary Ann (McCauley) O'Leary.
Her year of birth was 1855 and her year of death was 1907. Nine years later her husband, John O'Leary moved down to San Antonio, Texas, USA to be taken care of by his daughter Catherine Agnes (O'Leary) Cunningham.
So I don't have any family remaining in Canada that I know of.
I will reciprocate with any lookups in this area including digital pictures.
Thanks,
Fred Dunn

Here is a link to a family tree site containing the
Kennedy/Madden family. One branch is that of Anna (Kennedy) McCauley who
married John Joseph McCauley from Marysville, Ont. His father was Bernard
McCauley from Leed, County Antrim, Ireland.

Hi: Did you ever get your photo? If
not on the next sunny weekend, I will look for you. I just live a few minutes
away. It appears we may be connected, although not related. According to the
Marysville family tree book, Mary Ann McCauley who married John O'Leary was a
sister of Jim McCauley who married my great grandmother's sister, Cecilia
Jordan. There are a lot of McCauley's still in the area.
Good luck with your continuing search.

On
the McCauley's, it seems like they were very prevalent and had MANY children. I
received an email from a McCauley in Washington State about 8-9 years ago and
she sent me a very detailed tree of the McCauleys. Fred Dunn
Hi Fred: Well, I'm sorry to say I
could not find the stone today. A great many of the stones are in terrible
shape, and I could not read them. I did, however, find the parents' stone,
Bernard and Catherine, and have attached a picture. I think it says: In memory
of/Bernard McCauley/Died/July 11 1883/aged/67 yrs/native Parish of Lady (?) Co.
Antrim, Ireland/...soul resting.../Catherine/Cassidy/his wife/1823-1900.
The Chair of the Cemetery Board, Jim Kennelly, may be able to help more. I'm sure he could also put you in touch with the current McCauleys in the area.
Do you have a copy of the Marysville parish family history book, from 1987? If not, I can scan and forward to you. It also contains some interesting family info.
Good luck with your search.

Mary Beth - I need to connect with you to get what you may have on the Jordans. James McCauley & Cecelia Jordan were my great-grandparents. While I have back to Cecelia's paternal grandparents, I don't have more than a generation or two down from Cecelia's siblings so would love to share if you have any of that.
ReplyDeleteI can also put anyone in touch with our McCauley cousin Peter Sexsmith who still lives about 15 or 20 minutes from Marysville and knows the family and area history quite well and is very knowledgeable about the cemetery not only in Marysville but the couple of others nearby such as St. Charles Borromeo in nearby Read, Ontario - that is where Cecelia Jordan's parents Anne Tighe and James Jordan are buried (Father-in-law & Mother-in-law to James McCauley).
ReplyDeleteBill: Thanks so much for the info about Peter Sexsmith. How is he related to Dorothy Brickman? Are they still having the annual McCauley Reunions even though Dorothy passed away? If so, can you connect us with someone who can give us information about them?
ReplyDeleteBill: I was just sharing what was on the message board. I don't have any idea who Mary Beth is, and she most likely won't have access to this BLOG. Yet, it would be great if we could track her down some way. I am still trying to track down Fred Dunn. I have sent him a couple of letters, but no response, yet. :(
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me why my 2nd great-grandfather James McGinnis(McGuiness) born in Ireland 1828, lived in both Lonsdale and Toronto, Ontario, died in Lonsdale/Tyendinaga Twp./Marysville, Hastings, Ontario, Canada Aug. 24, 1903 buried at Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Marysville, Ontario Aug. 27, 1903. James is not known on any historical website nor his gravestone is not shown on findagrave nor on Google Images if he is that famous of a pioneer there.
